Garachico is a typical Canarian town in the north of Tenerife and located close to Icod de los Vinos and Buenavista del Norte and just a short drive away from the popular tourist resort, Puerto de La Cruz. There is something special about this town and there is such a lovely feel to it with its many cobbled streets and typical old fashion buildings.
It used to be one of the main shipping ports until a major volcanic eruption destroyed it way back in 1706 but now is a much-visited town by both tourists and locals alike.
We would highly recommend paying a visit to Garachico, but give yourself plenty of time to discover the many hidden beauties that it has to offer. You can easily spend a full day wandering round its old cobbled street, have a relaxing drink in the church square and looking at all the nooks and crannies of this beautiful place.
There are an array of nice bars and typical Canarian restaurants where you can tase their authentic cuisine or even just watch the day go by.
If you fancy a swim, there are plenty of different options for that as well. There is the municipal swimming pool located on the main sea front as well as the beach and rock pools for the brave hearted.
You will be delighted with this town and should maybe take the time to go there again in the evening for dinner. There are very often fiestas and folklore events on, so if you are lucky, will be able to see the locals celebrating in their very own special way.
