We am sure that you have probably been to Tenerife many times before and know quite a bit about it, but we are still shocked at the amount of people who come over and sit by their sun beds all the time and never actually get to see much of this beautiful island.
Having lived on the island for many years, we still appreciate what Tenerife has to offer. It has a vast array of interesting places to visit. We recommend that you take the time to visit the island properly and seek out your own hidden gems and let us know so that we can post them on here.
La Orotava - Is a beautiful old town situated in the north of the island and is well worth a visit, especially when they do the Corpus Christi festival and decorate the streets in flower petals.
La Laguna - Use to be the old capital of Tenerife until 1723. It is full of wonderful architectural monuments, palaces and traditional houses dating back to the XVII and XVIII centuries.
Santa Cruz - Which is the capital and boasts a wide array of shops, restaurants and fantastic architecture. It is well worth a visit around February when it is host to the second largest carnival in the world.
Puerto de la Cruz - This was probably the first tourist resort on the island that became popular to the Europeans. It still has a magical feel to it as you wander around its old fishing port village. It is home to the Lido Martianez where you can spend your day swimming and relaxing in one of it’s many pools.
Vilaflor - Is apparently the highest village in Spain and sits at the foot of the beautiful forest of Las Cañadas which is part of the national park of Teide. The drive up to Vilaflor from wherever you may be is a spectacular one and well worth the effort.
El Teide - This is a must for anyone visiting the island. El Teide is the third largest volcano in the world (from its base) and is the highest part of Spain. The drive up is spectacular and you can very often experience all the seasons in one short trip. Take something warm as it can often be cold up there especially if you dare to walk to the peak.
We suggest that you rent a car and take plenty of time to visit the whole of the island. It is a beautiful place with many different forms of landscapes and architectural structures. You will need you camera at all times in order to capture it’s beauty.
